Overview

A five-day introduction built around Bhutan’s three essential stops: the capital Thimphu, the former winter capital Punakha, and the cliffside monastery that appears on every postcard of the kingdom. It’s the tour package most first-time visitors choose, and the one we most often extend by a day or two once travellers see how much there is nearby.

Trip Highlights

Hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery)

Punakha Dzong at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers

Buddha Dordenma statue and Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu

Dochula Pass, weather permitting, with views of the eastern Himalayas

Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the “Divine Madman”
