My name is Yeshey, and Mayura Travel is mine. I think you should know who you are trusting with your holiday, so here I am.
I grew up in Bhutan and then studied it formally, taking a Bachelor’s degree in Bhutanese and Himalayan Studies. I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management at Griffith University on the Gold Coast, in Queensland. Today I work as a chef at a Bhutanese restaurant in Perth, Western Australia, specialising in Western and Japanese cuisine.
A professional kitchen turns out to be a good education in hospitality. You learn quickly what it takes to look after someone properly, and how much of that work happens quietly, in details the guest never sees. That is the standard I want every Mayura Travel itinerary to be held to.
Someone once showed me the world. Mayura Travel is how I pass that on.
Years ago my dear friend Bea Link and her husband Jürgen, of Frankfurt in Germany, took me travelling through Europe. It was the first time I had seen the world from the outside, and it did not just change my life — it changed things for my family too. I have never really stopped being wild and crazy about travelling since.
I opened this agency on the anniversary of that trip, as a way of saying thank you. The hope behind Mayura Travel is simple: that what happened to me can happen to someone else, and that tourism done properly can genuinely change a life rather than just fill a week.
The name is the peacock — mayura — a bird of the subcontinent, and a symbol of grace, patience and colour. It seemed like the right thing to travel under.
